Hockenheimring

GT/Racing/proto and Formula

The Hockenheimring (officially HockenheimRing Baden-Württemberg) is a racing circuit located near the city of Hockenheimring in Germany, on the Bertha Benz Memorial Route. The Hockenheimring was built in 1932 and in 1970 it hosted the German Grand Prix automobile for the first time. In 2002, the circuit was modified and the layout was much shorter, 4.574 km, ultra-modern and only kept the “stadium” part of the old circuit, avoiding the forest. Opinions on the new track are divided: overtaking is certainly more numerous and the capacity is greater (120,000 spectators) but several personalities from the world of Formula 1 have deplored the loss of what made the ” spirit” of the circuit and expressed their preference for the old layout.
